Summary of Responsibilities

Support the Corporate Tax Manager in all areas of tax.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Analyze numerous taxing situations and provide guidance to Credit / AP / Sales personnel
  • Create and update customer tax information and ship to profiles in multiple ERP Systems
  • Manage exemption and resale certificates of customers as well as exemptions provided to vendors
  • Respond to tax notices and resolve sales, income, & property tax filing discrepancies
  • Occasionally amend sales & use tax returns and submit refund requests
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of various sales tax accounts on the General Ledger
  • Maintain business licenses for branch locations
  • Assist Tax Manager with sales and property tax audit defense
  • Collaborate with Controller and Tax Manager on process improvements
  • Conducts special projects related to tax certificate data, customer data, & name changes
  • Perform other Duties as assigned


Typical Training/Experience:

  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally, 4-5 years of experience filing sales & use returns and sales & use tax compliance
  • Experience in tax research of laws & administrative codes/regulations
  • Prior experience working in Avalara/Avalara ECM/Checkpoint Edge/Epicore/Infor would be preferred
  • At least 1-2 years working in a corporate environment

  • Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information, inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.

Autonomy:

  • Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by Tax Manager. Ability to handle large volumes of data. Demonstrates analytical critical thinking skills.

Leadership:

  • May provide general guidance/direction to or train support personnel or professional personnel.

Environmental Job Requirements

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
  • No travel required.
