Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for an Assistant Inspector / Field Technician to join our Baton Rouge, LA office. As the successful new hire, you support a team who provides engineering condition assessments for transportation structures (bridges, highway overhead signs, and rail) across the State of Louisiana. The principal function of this position is to evaluate overhead sign structures through engineering inspections. You will utilize Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Nondestructive Testing criteria while inspecting overhead sign structures using access equipment and tools including but not limited to aerial lifts (mobile elevated work platforms), boats, ladders, safety harness, hand tools, and other equipment.

Working conditions:
Field work will be performed outdoors across the State of Louisiana in all seasons. This work may require overtime during field weeks and will be followed by in-office report corrections/submittals of the inspection reports. Travel to other states and countries may be required as necessary.
Physical requirements:
Majority of work is field based which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Inspection equipment such as ladders and boats are sometimes necessary and the ability to lift and use this equipment with assistance can be expected. Climbing vertical and horizontal structures with the use of safety harnesses for fall protection will be required. Enduring inclement weather will also be required. Working around traffic will be required.
