Job Summary:

Develops and implements strategies for minimizing organizational tax liability and ensuring compliance with tax code changes. Directs the review and submission of tax related documents or filings, which may include federal, state, or local tax returns, declarations, or extensions. Reviews and approves tax planning reports including the organization's tax obligations and payments. Oversees the work of external tax consultants or auditors, and participates in the audit process as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains employees for the department.
  • Oversees the work and assignments of team members
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Maintains department operations within budget parameters
  • Provides regular updates to CFO

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of overall tax compliance.
  • Assist outside tax consultants in the preparation of consolidated federal, state, local and foreign income tax returns, including identifying and calculating book-to-tax differences, preparing state apportionment workpapers, examining financial accounts and records, and preparing other information to be utilized in the preparation of the tax returns, as necessary.
  • Review foreign and U.S. federal and state income/franchise tax returns.
  • Supervise a team of at least one tax professional and multiple outside tax consultants.
  • Assist in the preparation of or review Forms 5471 and FBARs.
  • Review global transfer pricing model and coordinate with outside consultants and internal accounting personnel to compile transfer pricing study.
  • Review quarterly and annual U.S. and foreign tax provisions and valuation allowance analysis in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Review monthly general ledger account reconciliations and tax-related journal entries.
  • Perform or assist in research of tax laws using online tax research tools.
  • Compile technical memorandums on various tax issues.
  • Perform domestic and international tax planning.
  • Oversee the gathering of data for and review any property, sales & use, telecommunication and other indirect tax (U.S. and foreign) filings prepared by outside service providers.
  • Manage income tax, indirect tax and regulatory notices from various authorities.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary customer exemption certificates and documentation for U.S. and foreign customers.
  • Maintain documentation for SOX compliance.
  • Review tax footnote disclosures in SEC filings and assist in financial statement audit.
  • Review annual unclaimed property returns.
  • Manage tax audits for various U.S. or foreign jurisdictions, as necessary.
  • Assist with GILTI and BEAT calculations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task is essential.
  • Possess great organizational, analytical and numerical skills.
  • Excellent motivation and confidence to independently address issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication and the ability to thrive in a team oriented environment
  • Ability to interface with other departments within the organization

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with tax provisions, ASC 740, FIN 48, sales and use tax, and international taxation is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of tax experience in top-tier public accounting firm and/or public company environment required.
  • Bachelor's degree is required, with an emphasis in accounting or finance. Master in Taxation is desirable.
  • Active CPA license required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Travel to corporate office in Covington, LA as required.
