Job Description

As a Quality Manager, you will be responsible for leading and driving continuous improvement of the Silica Quality/Food Safety Management System at the Lake Charles, LA site. In this role, you will report to the Plant Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Key focus areas will be to drive the continued improvement of the fundamental quality systems in the business.
  • Oversee the Lake Charles, LA Silica Lab activities through the Lab Supervisor.
  • Oversee the handling of customer relations, including customer complaints and customer audits.
  • Provide SPC and other quality-related data to the PPG organization and to customers, as required.
  • Serve as a member of the Materials Review Board (MRB) and Quality Leadership Team (QLT).
  • Interface with PPG counterparts in the Monroeville Lab, Monroeville Research personnel, and Customer Service.
  • Act as ISO 9001 Management Representative for the business.
  • Oversee the training and continuous improvement activities in the plant beyond the quality/food safety management system.
  • Act as food safety team leader for Lake Charles, LA manufacturing facility.
  • Plant point of contact for customer complaints and will be responsible for driving the root cause / corrective action identification process with a continuous focus on reducing complaints.
  • As the plant point of contact for area related complaints the incumbent must be able to work directly with sales, customer service, technical service, and manage through ambiguous situations where the ownership, cause, and path forward are not always clear.
  • It will also be necessary at times to convey key quality information to customers directly with the support of sales and technical service.
  • Communication of critical quality information both internally throughout the organization and at times externally to customers.
  • Support plant and area quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in a science related field and greater than 5 years of demonstrated experience and success in managing a quality system is required.
  • Trained and /or experienced with Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in delivering projects/assignments on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, including strong customer focus/orientation, decision making and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of salary and wage associates at all levels.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and good interpersonal skills to form good relationships with the ability to lead teams and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Strong personal computer skills with Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of SAP and statistical software is highly desired.
  • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Plan (HACCP) certification desired.
