This job collaborates with business unit managers and organizational leadership, to review, evaluate, analyze, and provide counsel on compliance regulatory matters involving federal and state laws and regulations governing the provision of health care services. Communicates all significant and applicable pending and actual decisions, legislation and regulatory rulings impacting the organization. Drafts and negotiates contracts, collaborates with business partners to educate employees on regulatory changes and assists with plans for implementation of necessary changes. Develops, revises, and implements procedures, policies and programs that reflect compliance with applicable laws, rules and recommendations in the area of research.

Education

Required - Juris doctorate.

Work Experience

Required - 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts.

Preferred - Experience working with an integrated healthcare delivery system.

Certifications

Required - Admission to a state bar with an active membership in good standing.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to prepare and present regulatory changes and operational impacts to diverse audiences, including physicians, management and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster an environment of teamwork, professionalism, customer satisfaction, high performance, and mutual respect of others.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to be self-directed with strong analytical and operational problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle legal and compliance issues in a practical and efficient manner and draft, negotiate, and review contracts.
  • Ability to be flexible regarding varied assignments and willing to work under pressure with tight deadlines and develop new areas of expertise.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities and work flexible schedule, such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, more than 8 hours a day, etc.

Job Duties

  • Monitors all regulatory and legal developments applicable to the organization and communicates all pending and actual decisions, legislation and regulatory rulings in a timely manner to ensure the organization's continued compliance with applicable federal and state laws.
  • Collaborates with business partners to provide education on regulatory changes and assists with plans for implementation of necessary changes.
  • Reviews, evaluates and analyzes compliance regulatory matters involving federal and state laws and regulations and provides education to business partners.
  • Interacts with and directs outside counsel, consultants and administrative staff.
  • Drafts, negotiates and reviews contracts regarding the organization's research program.
  • Provides advice and counsel to Institutional Review Board (IRB), research department and other departments on issues related to human subject protection.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
