Once you become a part of our team, you will experience firsthand the life of an engineer at Mott MacDonald. Based in our New Orleans, LA office, you will collaborate with a group of talented engineers, engineer interns, and inspectors who are dedicated to consultant engineering. Right from your initial week, you will have the opportunity to work on projects and develop the skills you have been learning, setting the foundation for a successful career in the field.

Interns based in our New Orleans, LA office will gain valuable exposure to Mott MacDonald's civil engineering initiatives in Louisiana. These projects encompass various aspects of transportation, water resources, and water/wastewater management, catering to both public and private sector clients. This internship provides a distinctive chance for interns to acquire hands-on experience in both office and field settings, working on local projects. By actively participating in the design and construction phases of these projects, interns will develop a comprehensive understanding of the pivotal roles played by each phase in delivering successful outcomes.

As an intern your responsibilities may include:

  • An introduction to conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design
  • An introduction to site inspection, investigation, and monitoring
  • An introduction to design calculation, computation using formulas and preparation of calculations
  • Review, assistance, and modification of reports, specifications, and studies
  • Introductory opportunities to use crucial software for civil engineering design related projects
  • Get involved with our Early Career Professionals network and participate in lunch and learn opportunities

To be considered for this internship position, in our New Orleans, LA office, you will currently be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering. You should be able to demonstrate your interest in your chosen sector through relevant experiences, such as classes taken or previous work experience. You'll also have:

  • Obtaining a degree in civil engineering, or related field(s)
  • Prior relevant internships, co-ops or practical work experience preferred.
  • An understanding and willingness to expand their knowledge in relevant technologies, such as AutoCAD, stormwater modeling tools, and Office 365 applications.
  • Adept verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members and a willingness to ask questions.
  • An ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • A methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail and ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and write accurate reports.
