Position Summary Under the authority of Management, the On-Call Clinician assures that all operating procedures and regulations are followed. The On-Call Clinician provides direct services to consumers, significant others and collateral resources and assists consumers in reaching goals set in treatment. The goal is to provide immediate response to mental health, substance abuse, and DD crisis via telephone and face-to-face interventions. Often times, the Clinicians are required to collaborate with family members, psychiatrists, law enforcement, Coroner's office staff, hospitals and others.


Essential Duties and Functions

* Consumer Care including spending at least 75% of scheduled time in direct, face to face or telephone interactions with consumers

* Conduct psycho-educational, skills training, and supportive crisis counseling in residence or community as needed

* Observe all scheduled and as needed (PRN) medication observations and assist as directed by Residential Nurse i.e. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.

* Community Involvement and teamwork including but not limited to providing referral and other case management services for consumers and families at times of contact, either on the phone, in the community, or with the resident prior to discharge.

* Residential crisis specific duties including but not limited to (as applicable): o early walking, o daily planning, o meal preparation and clean-up, o maintaining necessary scheduled appointments that have been approved by supervisory team member

* Telephone Crisis Specific Duties including screening incoming calls, providing appropriate telephone counseling, consultation, assessment and referral to needed services including Mobile and/or Residential Crisis Intervention services

* Other duties as assigned


Essential Duties Addendum

* Assess client's mental/emotional status; obtain history from client, family and other collaterals; medical history if possible (med compliance, SI/HI, previous hospitalizations)

* Develop and implement an immediate plan of action with client, natural supports and/or other organizations for managing the crisis; monitor intervention and reevaluate

* Remain with client until crisis is stabilized or next level of care is implemented

* Mobile Clinicians do not perform Residential tasks or duties.


Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree preferred with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education or a related field. 2 | Page

* Must have a high school diploma or equivalency and 12 semester credit hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology; gerontology; or other social sciences.

* 4 years of experience in public or private human services with one year of mental health direct care experience.


Qualifications Addendum

* Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field.

* An LMSW or PLPC is required, LCSW or LPC is preferred.

* Thorough knowledge of substance abuse intervention and treatment, case work, case management, family dynamics and familiarity with psychiatric diagnosis per the DSM-IV.

* Minimum two years of Clinician experience. * Excellent verbal and written skills.

* Proficient skills with the Microsoft Products, including Excel and Word.

* Valid Driver's License.

Requirements

Metropolitan Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides mental health services to individuals in Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.
