Job Description

Overview

This position works under the guidance of a Craftsman in support of cable installation at project sites such as a refineries facility. In this position you can expect to be observing and learning the Craftsman's trade. The key responsibilities include but is not limited to assisting and performing tasks as instructed by the Craftsman, use of basic hand tool, carrying, picking up tools and supplies, and demonstrate understanding and assist Craftsman with various installation processes. To be successful in this position you must have at least 1 year experience working under a Craftsman and able to provide assistance with installation of raceway systems, pay and pour seals, light fixtures and start/stop stations and an understanding of proper installation of electrical cables.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare work site with appropriate tools and equipment required to complete the task at hand.
  • Demonstrate common knowledge of raceway fittings.
  • Provide assistance in the installation of raceway systems compromised of rigid, aluminum, PVC and plastibond conduit, install supports, along with galvanized steel, aluminum, and fiber glass cable tray.
  • Demonstrate and assist with pack and pour seals.
  • Demonstrate ability to install light fixtures and start/stop stations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to pull wire through a raceway system.
  • Demonstrate proper use and operation of hand and power tools such as but not limited to: band saw, drills, conduit threaders, hole punches, wire tuggers, etc. in a safe manner.
  • Assist craftsman in bending conduit using manual, mechanical, hydraulic and electric benders.
  • Assist in installing electrical cables and pulling cables.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow instructions.
  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout the work shift, including but not limited to preparing and organizing work tools, keeping worksite free of trip hazards and throwing away trash.
  • Complete all assigned computer trainings and tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with performing use of measuring devises and perform mathematical equations as it relates to tasks at hand.
  • Successfully complete, pass examination and obtain training certifications including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Confined Spaces, Emergency Action Plans, Safe Work Permits, Incident Reporting and Hazcom procedures, heavy equipment operation and fall protection.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as but not limited to personal lift equipment in compliance with Safety Standards and Procedure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School or equivalent
  • Has 1 or more years' experience in the Industry Trade.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safe work procedures associated with the assigned work including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Confined Spaces, Emergency Action Plans, Safe Work Permits, Incident Reporting and Hazcom procedures.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of OSHA Electrical Safe Work Practices as it pertains to daily apprenticeship duties.
  • Demonstrate safe work procedures associated with working from elevated work areas and personal lift equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of use, limitations and maintenance of all Personal Protective Equipment required to perform work.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping throughout the work shift, including but not limited to preparing and organizing work tools, keeping worksite free of trip hazardsand and throwing away trash.
  • Basic computer operation
  • Maintain OSHA 10 Training Certification
  • Hold and Maintain TWIC Card, as required for project site
  • Maintain all required heavy equipment operator certification
  • Maintain valid driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age in order to operate a Fleet Vehicle for insurance purposes
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload
  • Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are not required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Enrolled in Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) program and/or complete and pass NCCER exam.
