Position Summary

The position of Survey Instructor exists for the purpose of supporting the SSR Survey Group in formalizing, implementing and maintaining technical training programs for field personnel.

This individual is responsible for ensuring training programs are executed for all roles and all departments and regions within the Survey Group, working with regional operations managers and subject matter experts (SMEs).

This role is critical in supporting field-personnel in competency build and career advancement.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

  • Develops and maintains survey course curriculums (entry-level, intermediate, and advanced) such as:
    • Required Readings
    • Instructor Lead Classes
    • Remote Classes
    • Class Modules
    • 3rd Party Training
  • Conducts the research necessary to develop and revise training courses and prepares appropriate training materials.
  • Works with the Chief Surveyor, Service Excellence Team, Technical Solutions, and/or applicable areas to ensure that material is accurate and reflects current technical, market and business needs.
  • Researches and assists other SMEs in writing technical and user manuals to support training.
  • Establishes and maintains parts and supplies associated with all classrooms and hands on applications associated with instruction and curriculum development.
  • Outsources equipment through rental companies when in need for training.
  • Trains personnel by conducting formal classroom courses, workshops, seminars, and/or computer based/computer aided training. Coordinates the same with other SMEs and Operations Managers in all regions.
  • Trains the appropriate personnel in the mentoring and assessing process.
  • Maintains an all-level shared training calendar and works closely with operations managers, actively seeking opportunities to conduct training and refreshers when field personnel become available.
  • Conducts vessel visits to ensure survey systems are working correctly at a high level and uses these opportunities to conduct hands on training.
  • Assists with recruitment of professional field-staff with subsequent training and competency advancement.
  • Actively supports Survey's continuous improvement efforts to ensure that business and technical practices remain highly competitive.
  • Complies with company safety rules and training, conducts operations safely and reports any unsafe condition or practices immediately to his/her supervisor.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Two-year technical degree or higher in a STEM field of study
  • 5+ years' experience as a Party Chief in Survey & Positioning, and Geosciences & AUV field.
  • Lafayette, LA, Morgan City, LA or Houston, Texas based.
  • Must be proficient with a variety of the field concepts, practices, procedures and equipment operations in Survey & Positioning, and Geosciences & AUV field.
  • Must have valid driver's license and suitable driving record that is able to meet company driver requirements
  • Must have or be able to obtain TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer skills, major survey equipment manufacturer's software and equipment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient writing skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Participation in evaluating and advising on the impact of long-range planning.
  • Ability to bring and integrate a structured and process-oriented approach and skills into a high-activity/hi-pressure culture; confident making decisions and taking calculated risks with bottom line always in mind
  • Willing to take responsibility and act independently when necessary
  • Versatile: Must have the ability to pivot under fast-changing circumstances and not get overwhelmed easily

Working Conditions

This position is considered ONSHORE which is characterized as follows:

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • Some travel and time away from home
  • Ability to drive or fly for semi-long periods of time
