Pipefitters are responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawings, arrangements and blue prints.
Candidates require basic reading, math and writing skills. Must have knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Requires the ability to operate a grinder, 90 degree hand torch and both a chop and hack saw in addition to using a drill up to "; must be capable of reading a tape measure both standard and metric; understand and have knowledge of fitting tools such as jacks, come-a-longs, chain falls, wrap around, levels, combination and framing squares and pipe scribes; install flange type piping along with valves and fittings up to 4 "and above; knowledge of hooking and rigging to include the proper ropes, slings and chokers; Have the ability to pass a tack welding assessment; ability to install lock-ring fittings. Understand pipe symbols; Install piping of 1 " or below, in a field environment; have familiarity with various types of piping material to include, steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel, and stainless steel; knowledge of the use of pipe beveling machines; familiar with arrangement drawings and pipe drawings in order to install socket weld and weld sleeves, along with valves and fittings on units or onboard vessel; layout and install pipe hangers; knowledge of the operation of pipe bending and threading machines and pass a Sil-Brazing and Heliarc tack welding assessment. 2-4 years experience minimum.
Familiarity with the operation of various lift equipment such as forklift, overhead cranes and aerial platforms along with the operation of a hole punch; fit and install all pipe drawings material types and sizes along with valves and fittings on units or onboard vessel; ability to trouble shoot piping problems; fabricate all pipe drawings in the field in addition to being able to read inverted arrangement drawings and perform piping installation inspections. 3-5 years experience.
